About NeufTone

I build custom electric guitars and basses from standard and exotic woods, using the highest quality pickups available with powerful and innovative switching control systems. I am currently building custom instruments to order. My pricing is based on parts cost...I try to estimate just over parts cost to ensure I do not end up paying to build a guitar. I will work with you to make it as reasonable as possible; I do this for a love of the craft, not for profit.

I specialize in building unique and distinctly versatile guitars that retain classic vintage tones. NeufTones can carry a variety of pickups, depending on the tonal needs and wants of the customer. My favorite for vintage singlecoil tones are Lindy Fralin pickups (particularly the P90s), but I also will use Bill Lawrence, Seymour Duncan, Dimarzio, Tom Anderson, and custom Wolfetone and Steven Kersting pickups. Other requests can of course be accomodated. Lately I also have been preferring to use Bill Lawrence pickups in my designs, as they seem to be some of the most innovative humbucking designs on the market, and the tones they provide are very versatile and capable. I have several unique wiring systems that can offer the guitarist or bassist literally dozens of pickup configurations and tones, all with the smooth, reliable, and natural tone of passive electronics. I prefer passive systems but by all means, active systems can be accomodated at extra cost.

My wood parts are top quality: custom made by either Warmoth or USA Custom Guitars. Again, my specialty is unique fresh takes on vintage designs, so if you want to be able to have cutting edge versatility and great tone without the gaudy pointy edges or excessively streamlined contours of many modern custom guitars, you've come to the right place. I can offer a tremendous variety (varying with cost) of exotic woods as well as the standard time-tested tonewoods for your guitar. I tend to prefer tung oil finishes. I rub a tung oil varnish into the wood by hand, from 6 to 12 coats, depending on the desired glossiness. It accents fine woods wonderfully, and gives the guitar room to "breathe"; it won't mask the tone of the wood like the thick plasticky finishes on those factory-made guitars. Fine woods shouldn't be obscured; my preference is just to allow the finish to deepen the beauty of the wood and provide basic protection. However, I can have the woods painted, dyed, and/or sprayed however you would prefer using a couple different custom finishing shops working in conjunction with the wood suppliers, for an upcharge.

Each guitar is built completely custom and unique. I will work with you to get exactly what you want in a guitar, without having to pay exorbitant custom shop prices. For the price of the average American made guitar, you can have a custom guitar with the features YOU want that is completely unique to you, made with woods, hardware, and pickups superior to those used in the mass-produced American guitar lines. It seems that people buy these guitars and often immediately switch out the pickups...why not save money and install the aftermarket pickups of your choice as stock? As well as the desired hardware of your choice. These guitars are designed to have a striking and original aesthetic appearance, while paying homage to the great guitars of yesteryear. Of course, each one is different. Will one be yours?
